Hymenoplasty

female hymenThis genital surgery is designed for the reconstruction of the hymen. The hymen is always broken with the first sexual activity.

There are many cultural, religious, or social taboos that place importance on the hymen. Hymenoplasty is performed to make the patient appear virginal. It works best for women who have not been pregnant or had vaginal deliveries.

This procedure requires very precise hands of an experienced surgeon. Great care must be taken to find the torn edges of the hymen and bring them together as they once were. Healing is quick, but when sexual activity resumes the patient may bleed again as she did the first time she had sexual intercourse and tore the hymen again.

Hymenoplasty is done in the office under local anesthesia. This procedure takes one hour to perform.
